Car of the Week: Ferrari 288 GTO

It's the following car fo the 250 LM and himself there followed the gorgeous F40, F50 and the Enzo Ferrari.<br />The letters GT stand for 'Grand Turismo' and the O for Omologato, homologation in Italian. The 288 refers to it's 2.8 liter V8 engine. The 288 GTO is based on the mid-engined 308 GTB which has an 3.0 l V8 engine.<br />The GTO reaches 201 km/h (125 mph) in 15 seconds and the Top speed of 304 km/h (189 mph) made it to the first street-legal car that reaches 300 km/h (186 mph).<br /><br />Originally the GTO was built to compete in the Group B Race. Only Ferrari with the GTO and Porsche with their 959 entered this Championship. Porsche drove this race three times, Ferrari never. So every of the 272 produced cars were pure road cars.<br /><br />Ferrari also built five 'Evoluzione' models, which has a much more aggressive body and an increased power. It has 650 hp and a top speed of 363 km/h (225 mph) with a weight of 940 kg. There are only three existing, one of those you can visit at the 'Galleria Ferrari' in Maranello.<br /><br />The 'Sports Car International' awarded the GTO in 2004 as number two of the 'Top Sports Cars of the 1980s'. Car of the Week: Ferrari 575M

This week its the Ferrari 575M, my model is the 'GTC' edition.<br /><br />The 575M replaced the 550 in the year 2002 and was built till 2006. The following model is the 599.<br />The 'M' stands for the abbreviation of 'modified', or 'modificato' in italian and the '575' refers to the engine displacement in litres (5748cc).<br />The Maranello-engine is a V12 with a maximum power of 515 PS, the engine for the 'GTC handling package' and the Superamerica has 25 PS more.<br />With a maximum speed of 327 km/h (203 mph) it reaches within 4.2 seconds the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62mph) and the 0 - 1,000m in 21.9 seconds (with the semi-automatic gearbox).<br /><br />For about 17,000€ there was a GTC handling package available. It included a Brembo brake system (which were based on the F1 technology), unique 19 inch wheels, a low-restriction exhaust system. The GTC stands for Gran Turismo Competizione.<br /><br />There's also a convertible version, whichs Targa glass panel roof rotates 180° at the rear to lie there flat. The GTC package was optional. Ferrari marketed it as the world's fastest convertible with its top speed of 320 km/h (199 mph). In total there were 599 built.<br />After Enzo Ferrari's philosophy there should always be one fewer car available than what the market is demanding.<br /><br />In 2006, at the Geneva Motor Show, Zagato presented a special version of the 575M for the Japanese Ferrari collector Yoshiyuki Hayashi which was called 575GTZ.<br /><br />For the FIA GT Championship Ferrari built from 2003 - 2005 a GTC Version (same as my model). They built approximately 50 examples. Two years later, in 1950 the factory moved to Zuffenhausen, Germany. They continued the building untill 1965. There are guesses that about the half of the 76,000 produced 356 are still alive.<br />The design was by Erwin Komeda, employee at Porsche in those days, the rest like engine, suspension and the chassi were from Volkswagen. The initial price was 1,995 US$ - what a price in today's time!!<br />The Maverick should be placed in the gap after they stoppped producing the Ford Falcon, and also should play in the same league of 'Muscle Cars' as the Mustang does. As you know, the Mustang was  and still is THE muscle car and some dont actually know about the existance of the Maverick. (Fortunately its me to present you all the 'lost' cars of the past 100 years! :D)<br />As the most other Muscle Cars, too, it had a loong hood and a fastback roof with an shot deck and a wheelbase from about 2,6 meters. <br />And, not to forget, they had 210 hp (160 kW) - wroom! :)<br /><br />In 1969 they produced nerly 579,000 Mavericks - but where are they today? I looked for some at a German Car-selling-site - found none!! What a pitty, I really like the Maverick! :(<br />What I really like too, the names ot the exterior paints were like: Anti-Establish Mint, Hulla Blue or also Dresden Blue, Raven Black, Candyapple Red or Wimbledon White. <br />In 1971 they introduced the four-door model and also there was a vinyl roof available.<br /><table class="toc" id="toc"><tbody><tr> <td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td><td><br /></td></tr></tbody></table><br />Now some pictures . .
